Jon Ortega

4th Quarter 2019 - Volunteer of the Quarter

Jon was nominated by Russell Widener

Nomination for CPD Volunteer of the 4th Quarter, 2019 - Jon Ortega Jon Ortega has been a member of the Carrollton Citizen Patrol for almost 10 years. In that time, he has become one of our most proficient volunteers; especially in the area of Patrol. Jon continually sharpens his patrol skills and works with other patrol volunteers to make sure our C.O.P. units operate as effectively and safely as possible. As one of the original Citizen Patrol Trainers he has fostered the development of numerous new Patrol Members and is a driving force behind the success of CPD’s volunteer patrol program.

Working with a number of our experienced members, Jon helped develop new patrol training material, updated patrol procedure documents, and the Certified Patrol Member program. This program provides recurring training for our Patrol Members to practice and refine the skills they use when on duty as C.O.P. units. Those completing this annually recurring program are given the designation of Certified Patrol Member and are allowed to wear navy blue epaulet loops on their uniform.

Jon Ortega has been recognized for his major contributions related to patrol training and for the ongoing development, delivery, and administration of the Certified Patrol Member program. It is for this reason that Patrol Coordinator Russell Widener has nominated Jon Ortega for CPD Volunteer of the Quarter.

Having been on Patrol with Jon Ortega a number of times I have witnessed him demonstrate a high level of patrol skills proficiency, professionalism representing the CPD, and concern for safety. I would consider him an excellent patrol partner and a valued volunteer as his contributions extend beyond the patrol program. He contributes to the success of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association by volunteering in many ways. And his professional talents have been utilized to assist the PD directly as well. This was recently demonstrated when he consulted on the selection of a new public address system for the Police Department.

Having been a volunteer for a number of agencies over the past 27 years I can say with confidence that Mr. Ortega is one of the best volunteers I have encountered. I am happy to add my endorsement for the nomination of Jon Ortega as the CPD Volunteer of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2019.

Respectfully Submitted,

Roy Rabey, CCPAAA President
